Capitals Re-sign Brent Johnson

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have re-signed goaltender Brent Johnson, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The 6’3”, 196-pound native of Farmington, Michigan, was acquired by the Capitals on waivers from Vancouver, Oct. 4, 2005. In 2005-06 he played 26 games backing up Olie Kolzig and posted a 9-12-1 record, the first Capitals goaltender other than Kolzig to record that many wins since Jim Carey had 17 in 1996-97.

Last season Johnson stopped 11 of 13 shootout attempts, for an .846 shootout save percentage that ranked second among goalies who faced at least 10 shootout attempts. Johnson went 4-1-1 in his last six starts of the season, allowing one goal or less in all four of the victories (1.78 GAA, .958 save percentage). On April 1, 2006, he stopped all 46 shots in a 1-0 shutout of Ottawa. Johnson’s April save percentage (.953) and GAA (1.94) ranked third and fourth, respectively, in the NHL for the month.

Capitals season tickets and partial plans for the 2006-07 season are available by calling 202-266-CAPS. Plan holders can also take advantage of the Caps PowerPay option – monthly payments with no fees or charges. Visit WashingtonCaps.com for additional ordering and ticket information.
