Ovechkin's Overtime Goal Lifts Caps to 4-3 Win over Wings

Alex Ovechkin's one-timer from his left dot office on the power play at 1:56 of overtime enabled the Caps to complete their comeback and earn a 4-3 win over the Red Wings on Friday night. Playing at Detroit's brand new Little Caesars Arena for the first time, Ovechkin drew a tripping call on Wings defenseman Trevor Daley at 1:08 of the extra session, and 48 seconds later the Caps' captain put the coda on the contest.

Those headed to Capital One Arena for Tuesday night's tilt between the Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs likely had visions of a barnburner dancing in their heads. Over his first three seasons with the Capitals, Matt Niskanen missed a total of four games, all of them last season. During that span, whichever pairing Niskanen was on was generally the Caps' top pairing, and if not, it was certainly the team's second best.
