Capitals Merchandise In High Demand

ARLINGTON, Va. – The NHL recently released online sales figures for Shop.NHL.com and Washington Capitals merchandise – featuring the team’s new logos and red, white and blue colors – is in high demand. Twenty-four of the 30 teams increased their sales in July, but the Capitals represented the third most significant improvement, experiencing a 228% growth in sales year-over-year. Only the Buffalo Sabres and Nashville Predators had higher increases.

 
In a month filled with Stanley Cup memorabilia available online, the Capitals had two of the top 10 selling items in July. A red Alex Ovechkin T-shirt was the sixth most popular item, and the Caps’ red 2007 NHL Draft flex hat was the 10th most purchased item. The Ovechkin T-shirt ranked second among all player-specific merchandise (trailing only a New York Rangers’ Chris Drury T-shirt) and first among players who did not join new teams in July. The Capitals were one of only two teams to have both a player T-shirt and a hat in the top 10.
 
Ovechkin’s No. 8 jersey also remains one of the most popular in the NHL. For the month of July, which included a number of prominent free agents joining new teams, Ovechkin’s jersey was the eighth most popular on Shop.NHL.com.
 
Sales of Capitals merchandise at the team’s Kettler Capitals Iceplex pro shop have also been brisk since the new uniforms were unveiled June 22. The Capitals have collected approximately 550 pre-orders for the new Rbk EDGE Uniform System, which all 30 teams will switch to this year.
