Capitals Invite Fans to Skate at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, View Trophies

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals fans are invited to beat the heat with a free public skate on Friday, June 13, at Kettler Capitals Iceplex and view major NHL trophies on display from the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The ice will be available for a free public skate from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The trophies will be on display on the mezzanine level between the two rinks from 12 to 1 p.m. Hockey players can take advantage of a stick-and-shoot scheduled following the public skate (normal charges apply).

Fans will have the opportunity to view and take pictures with the Art Ross Trophy and the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy, as well as select other major trophies that the Capitals may win the night before at the NHL Awards Show in Toronto. Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin already claimed the Art Ross (leading scorer) and Richard (leading goal scorer) trophies, and Washington has three finalists for awards that will be presented Thursday night: Ovechkin (Hart Trophy, Lester B. Pearson Award), Nicklas Backstrom (Calder Trophy) and Bruce Boudreau (Jack Adams Award). Due to space constraints, in the event that the Capitals win all six trophies not all six would be at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Friday.
