/ Washington Capitals
ARLINGTON, VA. – The Washington Capitals have announced a new initiative created in memory of Lincoln Holdings LLC group partner Joshua M. Freeman. Josh’s Kids is a community program that will make Washington Capitals tickets available to local nonprofit organizations and schools with tax-exempt status. Saturday, Feb. 2, will be the official launch of the program with tickets to the game against the Atlanta Thrashers being donated to Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club, Two Rivers Public Charter School, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital area, Best Buddies Maryland and Best Buddies Virginia. The groups will be the first to take advantage of this new community initiative.
Founded by Lincoln Holdings LLC, the ownership group of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and WNBA’s Washington Mystics, Josh’s Kids was created in memory of Freeman, who died in a tragic helicopter accident Dec. 14, 2006.
Organizations will be able to sign up on the team’s website, WashingtonCaps.com, to receive complimentary tickets to Capitals games for the use of students, members, staff and volunteers. The tickets are located in a special section at Verizon Center named for the initiative, Josh’s Kids.
“Josh held the deep conviction that we have a responsibility to those less fortunate than ourselves, and he also had a passion for athletics that was evident in everything he did,” said Michelle Freeman, who represents her husband’s estate in Lincoln Holdings. “This program is such a wonderful combination of those two virtues – it is a great way to remember him. I know he would be proud that his passion and dedication has been translated into such an innovative opportunity for children.”
Josh’s Kids seats will also be donated to Most Valuable Kids (MVK), a partner of the Capitals that donates game tickets to boys and girls, 18 and younger, through various local nonprofit organizations. MVK’s mission is to provide an unparalleled reward system for local underprivileged children and children’s organizations that show exemplary behavior, spirit and community service.
Lincoln Holdings LLC is comprised of some of Washington’s most influential and charitable entrepreneurs: Ted Leonsis (majority owner), Dick Patrick (Capitals president), Jack Davies, Richard Fairbank, Raul Fernandez, Michelle D. Freeman, Sheila C. Johnson, Richard Kay, Jeong Kim, Mark D. Lerner and George Stamas. The partnership also owns a minority stake in the Washington Wizards and Verizon Center.
