Capitals Hockey Fights Cancer Fundraiser Raises $68,345 for Charity

Proceeds benefit Flashes of Hope, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Mid-Atlantic Region, Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network

The Washington Capitals and Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation's Hockey Fights Cancer auction raised $68,345 for charity. Proceeds benefit Flashes of Hope, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Mid-Atlantic Region, Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic, and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

The Capitals annual Hockey Fights Cancer Game presented by Leidos took place March 28 at Capital One Arena. During warmups, players wore lavender warmup jerseys that were auctioned off along with autographed Hockey Fights Cancer pucks and hats.

Top items in the fundraiser included jerseys wore and autographed by Nicklas Backstrom, Zdeno Chara, T.J. Oshie, Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson.

 

About Flashes of Hope

Flashes of Hope is a nonprofit organization that provides pediatric cancer families enduring images of their child's courage, beauty and dignity through free, professional photo shoots at local hospitals. Flashes of Hope became a program of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation in 2021. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) is a national nonprofit that raises critical funds for pediatric cancer research projects that will deliver safer, more effective treatments for all children fighting cancer. ALSF supports the goal of Flashes of Hope, to photograph every child until every child is cured. MSE Foundation and the Capitals established the D.C. chapter of Flashes of Hope and also support the Northern Virginia chapter. Over 2,000 local families have received the gift of Flashes of Hope.
