ARLINGTON, Va., – Washington Capitals left wing prospect Stefan Della Rovere has been invited to attend the 2009 Canadian National Junior Team Selection Camp, Hockey Canada announced today. Della Rovere is one of 38 players who will attend the camp that runs from Dec. 11-15 in Ottawa.

Della Rovere, 18, was the Capitals’ seventh-round choice, 204th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He is currently the captain of the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and has recorded 27 points (16g-11a) in 26 games. He leads the Colts in points, goals and power-play goals (six).

The Maple, Ontario, native also participated in the 2008 ADT Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Canada/Russia Challenge, an annual six-game exhibition tournament between all-star teams representing the three leagues of the CHL and a select team of Russian junior players.

The selection camp will help determine the team to represent Canada at the 2009 World Junior Championship to be held in Ottawa from Dec. 26, 2008, to Jan. 5, 2009. Thirteen of the 38 players invited to camp were first-round NHL draft picks; as a seventh-round selection, Della Rovere is the latest draft pick to earn an invite.
