ARLINGTON, Va., – The Washington Capitals have assigned defenseman Sami Lepisto to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Lepisto, 23, has played in seven games for Washington this season, posting one assist and 12 penalty minutes. A 6’1”, 195-pound native of Espoo, Finland, Lepisto made his NHL debut on Feb. 16, against Tampa Bay.
Lepisto was selected by the Capitals in the third round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, 66th overall. He spent four seasons in the top professional league in Finland before making the move to the United States to play for the Bears. He has 40 points (three goals, 37 assists) in 47 games this season in Hershey.
