ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have assigned right wing Brian Willsie to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Willsie, 32, made his Capitals season debut on Tuesday against the Florida Panthers at BankAtlantic Center. The Belmont, Ontario native has registered 12 goals, 21 assists and is +17 in 36 games with the Bears this season. Willsie is a former Capital and Hershey Bear who returned to the organization after splitting the past four years between the Los Angeles Kings and Colorado Avalanche organizations.
A veteran of 381 NHL games since he made his debut in 1999-00, Willsie has totaled 52 goals and 57 assists (109 points) in the NHL. His best season came in 2005-06 with the Capitals when he finished fourth on the team with 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) in 82 games.
