BETHESDA, Md. - CSN Mid-Atlantic will provide exclusive access to the 2016 Washington Capitals training camp with a special three-part original series, Capital Gains, which begins Sunday, Oct. 9. The one-hour episodes, which will debut consecutive nights and encore as three-hour blocks during "Caps Week on CSN," will take fans behind the scenes as players, coaches and staff prepare for the 2016-17 National Hockey League regular season.
The Capital Gains episodes - which will feature unique content, access and storylines - will debut consecutive nights, beginning with the first episode (Will Over Skill) on Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. immediately after the team's preseason finale against the N.Y. Islanders (CSN at 5 p.m.) The second (Rock the Road) and third (Breaking the Ice) episodes will premiere Oct. 10 and Oct. 11, respectively, at 10 p.m.
CSN will also present Capital Gains as a three-hour block for binge viewing from 7 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 12, Oct. 14 and Oct. 16, the nights before and after the team's 2016-17 regular-season opener at Pittsburgh on Oct. 13 (8 p.m. on NBCSN) and home opener against the N. Y. Islanders on Oct. 15 (CSN at 7 p.m.) Exclusive content from the episodes will be featured across CSN's digital and social media platforms, including CSNmidatlantic.com.
"The extraordinary access and storytelling featured in Capital Gains allows fans to experience training camp in a way typically reserved for players, coaches and staff," said CSN Mid-Atlantic Vice President of Content Strategy Joe Ferreira. "This is an opportunity for fans to get closer to the team during a pivotal time of the season."
Will Over Skill borrows its title from this year's team training camp slogan and focuses on the intensity and competition of the first few days. Fans will witness the highs and lows that players experience as they work to solidify or improve their position on the organizational depth chart, including the disappointment of being reassigned.
The second episode, Rock the Road, takes fans on the road with the Capitals as they travel to Bridgeport, Conn., to face the N.Y. Islanders in an exhibition contest. From the morning skate at their training facility to the late-night arrival back home, the nearly 20-hour day, including the game, is documented through the experiences of the players on the bus, plane and at the rink.
Breaking the Ice covers the team as the roster takes shape and World Cup of Hockey participants return, including head coach Barry Trotz and captain Alex Ovechkin. As the preseason schedule winds down, fans will join the Capitals during the workouts, meetings and on-ice sessions that will position them for a successful season.
