by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
Capitals left wing Donald Brashear attended the Comcast SportsNet Casting Call Challenge presented by Bud Light at RNR Bar and Lounge in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 28. Brashear served as a celebrity judge for the challenge, which is an intense two-round competition where sports enthusiasts go head-to-head to for a chance to win a guest appearance on Comcast SportsNet’s Monday Nite Live.

The Casting Call Challenge was open to all patrons at RNR. Five contestants were selected at random for the opportunity to participate in the contest. Contestants competed in two categories, play-by-play commentary and sport minute fan rant.

During the first round, contestants watched highlights of Virginia Tech and University of Maryland football, D.C. United, the Baltimore Orioles and the Caps. After viewing the highlights the participants were handed a microphone and had to provide live play-by-play commentary. The judges then scored their performances on a scale of one to nine. In the second round, contests were given a sports-related topic to have a point-counterpoint discussion with Chick Hernandez, who hosted the event.

“I had a really good time tonight,” said Brashear. “Some of the contestants were pretty good, and some were just awful. Overall it was very entertaining.”

The grand-prize winner won the opportunity to appear as a special guest on Monday Nite Live, a weekly Comcast SportsNet show, along with suite tickets to an upcoming Caps game.
