Capitals Re-sign Defenseman Dwayne Zinger
WASHINGTON, D.C. August 17, 2005 The Washington Capitals have re-signed free-agent defenseman Dwayne Zinger, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Zinger, 29, was originally signed as a free agent by Detroit on March 13, 2000. He was signed by Washington as a free agent on July 9, 2002, and made his NHL debut with the Capitals in 2003-04. The 6' 4", 216-pound native of Coronation, Alta., recorded four assists (four points) and 118 penalty minutes in 58 games with the AHL’s Portland Pirates in 2004-05.
In one NHL season Zinger has totaled one assist (one point) and nine penalty minutes in seven games. In 339 career AHL games Zinger has totaled 19 goals, 45 assists (64 points) and 543 penalty minutes. Prior to beginning his pro career in 1999-00, Zinger played four seasons of collegiate hockey with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks of the CCHA.
