Capitals Re-sign Goaltender Maxime Ouellet

 WASHINGTON, D.C. - August 15, 2005 - The Washington Capitals have re-signed goaltender Maxime Ouellet (MAX-eem OO-leht), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ouellet posted a 15-20-3 record, a 2.89 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage with Portland of the AHL last season. The 6' 2", 195-pound native of Beauport, Que., has a 2-4-1 NHL record with one shutout, a 2.99 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage. He recorded his first NHL shutout in Washington's 5-0 victory against the Atlanta Thrashers Dec. 16, 2003. He made his NHL debut with Philadelphia in 2000-01.

Obtained by Washington in a trade with Philadelphia for Adam Oates March 19, 2002, Ouellet, 24, was selected 22nd overall (first round) by the Flyers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to beginning his pro career in 2000-01, Ouellet spent three seasons playing for the Quebec Ramparts and one with Rouyn-Noranda of the QMJHL. He was named to the QMJHL's Second All-Star Team in 1998-99, 1999-00 and 2000-01. Ouellet won the Jacques Plante Trophy as the QMJHL's best goaltender in 1998-99.
