For nearly 28 seasons, Capitals home games have been synonymous with anthem singer and military serviceman Bob McDonald.

McDonald recently decided it was time to retire from the United States Army after serving 27 great years, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major.
Throughout his military career, he served as Group Leader of the U.S. Army Chorus, performing in the states and abroad for our troops.
His singing has provided him with many unique opportunities including entertaining presidents and visiting heads of states, celebrating a Stanley Cup Championship, singing in the World Series and many more.

"In many ways the ultimate mission was diplomacy. Looking back, I realize I've sung in over 30 languages," McDonald said.
Bob's passion for singing stems from his father, who was a professional singer and also served in the Army as part of the U.S. Army Chorus. They are the only father son duo in the history of the unit.
"I've seen the power of music to connect with Americans from all walks of life, as I have had the privilege to sing for many veterans and active duty soldiers as part of my job," he said.
Bob began singing anthems when he auditioned for the Capitals at the Capital Centre in 1992 but anthem singing didn't become a mainstay for him until the 1998 Stanley Cup Final and he has now sung for Washington every season since then.
"I have to say, helping to connect the Army with the Capitals has been a joy. The organization does so much for our troops," said McDonald.

Bob often dons a Capitals jersey at center ice but has also sung in his military uniform at Capital One Arena, which is special to him.
"Singing the anthem while in uniform makes it uniquely powerful, as I know I am representing my fellow soldiers - both those currently standing in harm's way to defend us, and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice," he said.
After 27 years in the military, he felt now was the right time to retire and wants to be young enough to embark on a "Life Part 2."
As for his retirement plan?
"I am hoping to do a lot more theatre and performing in general," he said. "And I want to enjoy the flexibility of my new schedule that will afford me to travel and visit friends and family when possible."
But don't worry Caps fans - Bob won't be going anywhere away from Capital One Arena anytime soon and looks forward to being back at center ice when the time comes.
