WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin
launched his own AIM Page today at www.aimpages.com/alexovechkin
, AOL®’s social networking site. Alex’s fans will be able to see the star’s personal side, learn his take on upcoming games and interact with each other and Alex.
“I decided this summer that I wanted to make a place online that my fans could feel at home,” Ovechkin writes in the site’s introduction. “I talked to Ted Leonsis, our owner, about setting up this page. I hope [my fans] hang out, leave me a message and talk to each other.”
In conjunction with the site’s launch, AOL and the Capitals unveiled a pair of billboards in downtown Washington, D.C., to promote Ovechkin’s AIM Page. The billboards, which feature a silhouetted and somewhat mysterious image of the Capitals’ star and the phrase “Do You Know #8?” are located on the 7th Street NW side of Verizon Center and at the intersection of 13th and L streets NW.
In addition, each fan at tomorrow night’s Capitals game against the Buffalo Sabres at Verizon Center will receive a free poster with artwork similar to the billboards.
