Spirit Squad


The Caps Spirit Squad is a high-energy, co-ed team that represents the Washington Capitals as brand ambassadors at Capitals games and events throughout the DC area.

During games, the team is committed to pumping up the crowd with cheers, contests, and giveaways. They assist with timeouts and intermission activities, as well as being immersed both in the game and in the crowd.

During events, team members are committed to enhancing the experience of the host and all guests, connecting with attendees in a family-friendly manner that is consistent with the Capitals' brand and mission.

The Caps Spirit Squad represents the Capitals organization and DC at large, engaging with the best fans in hockey. Team members should be knowledgeable hockey/Caps fans who are enthusiastic, are strong communicators, and who enjoy interacting with fans. Ideal team members are comfortable interacting with large crowds and can work as a team in fast-paced environment. From the moment the doors open to the final whistle, the Caps Spirit Squad ignites the crowd and inspires fans to cheer in #ALLCAPS. Team members are responsible for conveying the energy of the Stanley Cup Champions wherever they go to bring fans the ultimate Capitals experience.

The 2018-19 Caps Spirit Squad Audition will take place at Capital One Arena on Sunday, August 19th, beginning at 9am. Interested applicants should complete the online registration form BELOW prior to August 15th to be included. Entry into the audition is free of charge.

You must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate (or equivalent). You can fill out the application form BELOW.

The audition will consist of activities showcasing your on-camera presence, hockey knowledge, and ability to work as a teammate. Applicants will participate in group activities, including improvisational exercises, team building, and physical fitness challenges. Continuous movement and high energy around and about the arena and constant interaction in the stands is required in this role.

Applicants should wear an athletic-style top, shorts/pants, and footwear.

Caps Spirit Squad members are representatives of the Washington Capitals. Be prepared to be on-camera, in front of fans and VIP guests. Come prepared to impress. Hair and/or facial hair should be styled in a way that complements your features and does not hide your face. Items such as hats and jewelry are not recommended.

No, dancing will not be a part of the audition process, and thus the ability to dance is not required. Prior cheer experience is not required either, but the ability to energize a crowd is necessary for all aspiring team members.

No, skating experience is not required.

  • Food, water, personal items as needed (expect a morning & afternoon session with a midday break)

Yes, team members are paid for their work at games and outside events. The squad is a part-time position.
