"You Call the Shots" Contest Winner

by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver, BC – The Vancouver Canucks and Direct Energy are proud to announce that Lori Jones of Nanaimo, B.C. has won the first ever “You Call the Shots Contest” where Lori, along with three guests, were treated to a once in a lifetime opportunity of experiencing a life in the day of an NHL General Manager.

“I can’t believe I won! This is an experience that I will never forget,” said Jones. “My husband and I are huge Canucks fans and this is a terrific thrill for us and our family. I work at a school and the students and teachers at home can’t wait to hear about my experience.”

One of more than 5,000 contestants who entered the contest online, Lori and her three guests began their adventure by attending the morning skate at General Motors Place. They had their photo taken at centre ice with Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks, Dave Nonis, and received a team-autographed jersey. After their photo shoot, they took a private, guided tour of the facility. The day concluded with a dinner at the Sterling Vineyards Room in General Motors Place and seats in the General Manager’s private box to watch the Canucks take on the Colorado Avalanche.

“Direct Energy’s contest has been a great way to bring our fans closer to the game,” said Dave Nonis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks. “We’re really excited to be able to offer such a unique opportunity to our loyal fans to learn about the operational side of a professional sports team.”

Along with her husband, Lori brought her husband’s brother and his father - also passionate Canucks fans. “Just me and the boys,” says Jones. “We’ve watched many Canucks games together as a family, so seeing a game from Dave Nonis’ box was pretty cool for all of us.”

“As a recent entrant into the competitive B.C. retail gas market, Direct Energy’s sponsorship demonstrates our long-term commitment to our customers and the communities in which we operate,” said Clinton Roeder, Senior Vice President, Direct Energy. “We are really pleased to lend our support to such a highly respected organization like the Canucks.”
