Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed defenceman Tyler Myers to a five-year contract worth an average annual value of $6 million.

"Tyler is a proven competitor and an important addition to our roster," said Benning. "His experience, character, and size are qualities that will help our team. We are excited to have Tyler and his family join our team."
Myers, 29, led all Winnipeg Jets defencemen in goals (9) and tied for second among blueliners in points (31) during the 2018.19 season. His three game-winning goals also paced Jets blueliners while his 156 shots on goal ranked second. The 6-8, 229-pound defenceman has amassed 265 points (74-191-265) in 635 regular season games split between the Jets (29-85-114 in 270 games) and Sabres (45-106-151 in 365 games). He has also totaled 15 points (7-8-15) in 39 career Stanley Cup playoff games.

Born in Houston, Texas and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Myers was originally selected by Buffalo in the first round, 12th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He played all 82 games during his Calder-winning debut NHL season in 2009.10 in which he led all Sabres players in ice time (23:44) and ranked first among Buffalo defencemen in goals (11), assists (37), points (48) and blocks (133).
Prior to his professional career, Myers played 191 games for the Kelowna Rockets highlighted by WHL Playoff MVP honours and a WHL championship in 2009.
