CANUCKS VS SABRES PREVIEW

The Vancouver Canucks face off against the Buffalo Sabres for the first of two meetings this season. The Canucks face the Sabres at Rogers Arena on Jan. 25.

Vancouver is 6-3-1 in their last 10 games against Buffalo dating back to the 2010.11 season (3-2-0 in their last 5).

Tonight's game marks the third game of the Canucks first road trip of the season that also sees stops in Detroit (Oct. 22) and Minnesota (Oct. 24).

 VS SABRES NOTES     

-Thomas Vanek was drafted by Buffalo fifth overall in the 2003 NHL Draft. In parts of 9 seasons with the team, Vanek registered 497 points (254-243-497). His 254 goals ranks fifth all-time in team history while his 106 power play goals and 41 game winning goals rank 4th all-time in each category. He has faced his former team on 11 occasions and has 7 points (3-4-7) in those games.     

-Anders Nilsson spent the 2016.17 season with the Sabres posting a career-high for wins (10) and games played (26) along with a 2.67 GAA and .923 save percentage. His shots against (857), saves (791) and minutes played (1,485) last season with Buffalo were also career-highs. Against his former team, Nilsson is 3-0-0 along with a 1.95 GAA and .944 save percentage.     

-In 4 career games versus the Sabres, Jacob Markstrom has posted a 3-1-0 record along with a 2.21 GAA and .922 save percentage.     

-Alexander Burmistrov registered his first career goal on Oct. 29/10 vs BUF.     

-In his last meeting with Buffalo on Feb. 12/17, Michael Chaput registered a career-high 2 goals.     

-In 25 career games versus the Sabres, Michael Del Zotto has registered 12 points (all assists).     

-Sam Gagner's last power play goal occurred on Mar. 10/17 at BUF. In 13 games versus the Sabres in his career, Gagner has registered 10 points (3-7-10).     

-Daniel Sedin has recorded 18 points (5-13-18) in 20 career games versus the Sabres.     

-Henrik Sedin has collected 14 points (4-10-14) in 20 career games versus Buffalo.     

-Brandon Sutter has 15 points (7-8-15) in 26 career games versus the Sabres.

-Brock Boeser ranks tied for 7th in rookie goals (2) and tied for 4th in rookie points (5). He also ranks third among rookies in points per game (1.25).
