Markstrom's clutch save leads to OT winner vs Wild (01/14/18)
Goaltender Jacob Markstrom came up with several clutch performances in his third season with the Canucks, recording a career-high 23 wins. The Swedish netminder stole several games and finished the season with five victories in his last six starts. One of his best outings, however, came back in January. With the Canucks and Wild tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, the two teams headed to overtime. Brandon Sutter played hero and netted the winner, but it wouldn't have been possible without a clutch and timely pad save by Markstrom moments prior. The 28-year-old goaltender showcased some terrific flexibility to extend his pad and rob a pinching Jared Spurgeon before Sutter went the other way and scored. Markstrom exhibited great awareness on the save, reading the play perfectly and foiling Spurgeon of what seemed like a sure goal.
