Uniglobe Road Trip Diary - Ryan Kesler

by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks

We asked Ryan Kesler to share some details with us from the road - and he didn't disappoint. Ryan gives us the insider's perspective on the Canucks road trip.

We're on a plane to St. Louis. Unlike last season when we traveled the early on the morning following a game, we're flying at night immediately after the (for instance we left Vancouver for Edmonton right after we played them on Monday).

But since today's a day off, we're traveling in day light to St. Louis. I'm still not sure which is better.

There's always an in-flight movie. Today it's 'The Sentinel' with Michael Douglas. It's about a special agent who tries to thwart an assassination attempt. It was pretty good - lots of action and it had Eva Longoria. That's always a bonus.

I'm not a big reader like some of the other guys like Linden and Ohlund, but sometimes I flip through magazines - Maxim, US Weekly, Life & Style etc. That kind of stuff.

Mostly I listen to my iPOD. I really like Yung Jock, Akon ft. Eminem, and Rascal Flatts right now. Quite a few of the guys play backgammon and cards on the plane - there's a whole circuit. There's a poker tournament going on behind me right now. Tommi Santala, Alex Burrows, Kevin Bieksa and Josh Green are at table 'A'. It looks like Alex battled back to take the pot.

Alex is actually my roommate on the road which has been great. He's a really good guy and we get along really well, so I'm glad he beat the guys at poker. He's representing the room.

Being on the road has good points - I really like seeing all of the different cities and eating at different restaurants. The toughest part is being away from my wife and our three dogs.

I think the best city is definitely Detroit - well, it's not necessarily the best city, but it's home for me, and it's always nice to see my family.

On long road trips we sometimes have down time - depending on the city and the weather, I usually catch a movie or go shopping.

This past summer I played in the World Championships in Latvia - it was a super long trip - and my clothes and equipment failed to arrive with me. It took three days to show up - now that is a tough start to a trip! So far this trip has been uneventful, but it's a long trip - you never know.

These road games coming up for us are big - we have to ensure we play good solid hockey. When we have a good all around team effort it seems we end up on the right side of the scoreboard. If we do all of these things we should come back to Vancouver with a couple wins.

Well, it looks like we're landing in St. Louis. Thanks for all your support and be sure to check back throughout the season - I'll let you know if I have any good road trip stories!
