Traffic pattern changes to Abbott St. from Jan.07-Apr.01, 2010

Vancouver, B.C. – Canucks Sports and Entertainment announced today that revised traffic and pedestrian patterns adjacent to General Motors Place will be in effect from January 7th, 2010 until April 1st, 2010.

Starting Thursday, January 7th, Abbott street, from Expo to Pacific blvd, will be closed to vehicular traffic. Gate 16 and the west sidewalk, adjacent to General Motors Place, will remain open until February 3rd for pedestrian access. From February 4th to March 4th, Abbott street, including the west sidewalk along with additional road closures will take affect as part of the transportation plan for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. From March 5th to 30th, the west side walk adjacent to General Motors Place will re-open for pedestrian access. On March 12th, road closures will once again come into affect as part of the Opening Ceremonies for the Paralympic Games which will take place at BC Place Stadium. Normal vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns will re-open on April 1st.

For Canucks hockey games and concerts taking place at General Motors Place during the month of January, a temporary bus drop off zone will be available on the south side of Pacific blvd. between Carroll and Abbott streets. Taxi and guest drop off/pick up area will be accommodated on the north side of Dunsmuir street west of Beatty street and the south side of Georgia street between Cambie and Hamilton. Guests with disabilities can be dropped off at the north end of Abbott street at Expo blvd. and enter General Motors Place through Gate 16 with a valid event ticket during the month of January. Alternatively, guests with disabilities can be dropped off on Griffiths Way and access the ramp leading to Gate 7 for entry into General Motors Place.

Mar. 5 – 30, 2010 Abbott street, from Expo to Pacific blvd., closed to vehicular traffic. West sidewalk adjacent to General Motors Place and Gate 16 re-opens for pedestrian access.
Mar. 12, 2010 Road closures once again in affect due to Paralympic Opening Ceremonies at BC Place Stadium.
April 1, 2010 Abbott street re-opens to vehicle traffic.
