Teddy Bear Picnic

by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks

"If you go out to the woods today, you're in for a big surprise..."

On Friday, May 19, 2006, the Canucks Family Education Centre (CFEC) held the first annual at Garibaldi Elementary. The entire school was invited to participate, with more than 100 students, parents, and teachers in attendance. Everyone sang the Teddy Bear picnic song as they cozied up on the school lawn with their blankets, books, and teddy bears. A free picnic lunch was served to all guests, thanks to the generosity of Panago pizza. Guests also enjoyed oranges, carrots, and juice.

Garibaldi Elementary is one of the local schools that CFEC has developed family literacy programs for. Now in four elementary schools on Vancouver's east side, CFEC provides top-rated family literacy programming while encompassing a number of important services, including free child-minding, a complimentary hot lunch component, and many others.
