As I type this, Toronto is crushing New York for the second time today. And yes, I’m a Jays fan – I’m from Toronto! I wear a Yankees hat sometimes, a Dodgers hat other times, but the Jays are my guys, so I wasn’t all that upset when the boating excursion we had planned for Saturday afternoon didn’t pan out. I settled in with Dmitry and we cheered on the Jays. Actually Dmitry was on his iPad the whole time. I just asked him if he likes baseball. “No,” was his final answer.
There aren’t a lot of fans left in the stands watching the Jays and Yankees right now, I think there was more here in Penticton for our game Friday night against the Oilers. We didn’t get the result we wanted, but for the first game of the tournament I thought we played well and just didn’t get the bounces. We had a good practice Saturday and focused on the little details, like moving the puck quicker, blocking shots and clearing our zone.
I know I talked about Connor McDavid last blog, but I can’t stress enough how good this guy is and how fun it is to play against guys with that much skill. I loved that our guys didn’t just sit back and watch him do his thing; they weren’t timid at all as Jake Virtanen demonstrated with the hit of the game. The boys were buzzing after that one!
We’re taking it pretty easy tonight, just grabbing some dinner and then hit the sheets early to get a good sleep. A wild Saturday night indeed!
I know Sunday is the first NFL Sunday of the season, but don’t forget to watch our game against the Winnipeg Jets at 2 p.m. PST, live on Canucks.com!
