Shinkaruk's bad luck

by Derek Jory / Vancouver Canucks
Last Saturday, Vancouver Canucks prospect Hunter Shinkaruk was a ball of excitement.

The 19-year-old native of Calgary, Alberta, who the Canucks drafted as a steal at 24th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, was headed to Toronto to see his trainer, get his new program and see some friends.

Three days later, without explanation, Shinkaruk tweeted the following:

Today we found out why.

That’s Shinkaruk before getting six stitches for a cut lip. Fellow Canucks prospect Cole Cassels shot a puck towards the net, it went off the glass, took an odd bounce and hit Shinkaruk in the lip. What luck.

Did he cry? Of course not. He warriored through it, although he was scared for his pearly whites. Thankfully they all remain intact.

Cassels could not be reached for comment, he thought it was karma calling and did not pick up.

Shinkaruk doesn't hold a grudge, he's just hoping the scar is cool.

UPDATE: Cassels reached out to Shinkaruk and the two are back on speaking terms, even though they were never off them.
