Salo and Jovanovski return to Rogers Arena

by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks
VANCOUVER, B.C. – As part of the Rogers Arena #20in20 celebration, ‘Defence Never Rests’ night will feature a special appearance and ceremonial puck drop from former Vancouver Canucks defencemen Sami Salo and Ed Jovanovksi when the Canucks take on the San Jose Sharks on Sunday, February 28th. The duo will also be joined by another all-time great Canucks blueliner, Jyrki Lumme, for an intermission interview with host Joey Kenward. The Vancouver Canucks also remind fans that Sunday’s game will have an earlier start time with puck drop scheduled for 4:00 pm.

Fans are strongly encouraged to be in their seats by 3:50 pm for the ceremony and to wear jerseys of their favourite blueliners as the team celebrates the D-Men that have ruled the Canucks blueline over the past 20 seasons at Rogers Arena.
One of the most prolific scorers from the blueline in Canucks history, Sami Salo played nine seasons for Vancouver, where he ranks third among Canucks defencemen in goals (74), ninth in assists (162) and seventh in points (236). His 48 power play goals and 20 game-winning goals scored while in a Vancouver uniform are both club records among Canucks D-Men.
A mainstay on the Canucks blueline for parts of seven seasons, Ed Jovanovksi was a unique combination of skill and toughness. Among defencemen in franchise history, Jovanovksi ranks in the top ten in goals (57), power play goals (22), assists (177), points (234), and penalty minutes (536). He was awarded the Babe Pratt Trophy as the team’s best defencemen in three consecutive seasons and led Canucks blueliners in scoring in four consecutive seasons.
