Road closures to affect traffic patterns around GM Place

by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver, B.C. – This weekend, March 13th and 14th, a number of downtown streets in close proximity to General Motors Place will be closed as a result of the Paralympic Opening Ceremonies. The Vancouver Canucks take on the Ottawa Senators on March 13th and the Calgary Flames on March 14th.

The only vehicle access routes will be from Abbott Street and Expo Boulevard or from Pacific Boulevard and Nelson Street. Pedestrian access will be from downtown via the Georgia and Dunsmuir walkways, the Stadium Skytrain Station across from Gate 10, or Tinseltown at Abbott Street and Expo Boulevard.

Only vehicles with a valid General Motors Place parking pass, or parking booklet ticket for General Motors Place lot 987 (for the game) will be permitted to drive into the site. There will be no general public vehicle access on the site.

Taxi and disabled drop-off will be at Abbott St. & Expo Blvd. and entry via Gate 16.There will be no parking on Abbott St. but there will be a small drop-off area. Taxi access will be limited as there are only two access points to the arena and heavy traffic congestion is expected.

There will be traffic management personnel to help manage the heavy traffic. Fans are encouraged to account for the closures and to look for alternative transportation via transit and leave home early to be seated before puck drop.
