Reid Report: Day 6

by Kristin Reid / Vancouver Canucks

It’s game day in Montreal, and it’s hard to believe the team has already been on the road six days and is only playing their second road game. The players are anxious to get on the ice again. They’ve been practicing well, but I think boredom is starting to set in just a little bit.

Sami Salo is going to return tonight. Alain Vigneault is glad they waited the extra game, because he says Salo is skating pain free now. Nolan Baumgartner comes out, but will stick around for a little while. GM Mike Gillis wants to carry 7 defensemen just to be safe. Up front, Tanner Glass is out again tonight, with Ryan Johnson getting back in.

Once again Luongo, Burrows and the Twins were the stars of pregame media. It wasn’t as busy as I was expecting though. The Habs skate at their practice facility that is about 25 minutes out of town on game days. With the Habs on the ice at 10:30 and the Canucks at 11, it is impossible to cover them both.

Alex Burrows told a great story the other day about growing up watching hockey.

His mom used to send him to bed after the first period of hockey games, but she would tape the second and third periods for him. He would wake up early the next day to watch what he’d missed and he’d be the only one at school that day that had the scoop on how the game had played out. He used to love pretending that he got to stay up to watch the whole game. Burrows has had a huge smile on his face since the plane touched down in Montreal.

Yesterday my cameraman Rory McGarry and I tried Montreal smoked meat sandwiches. I made it through about two bites, he finished his like a trooper. I think he’s finally feeling better today... that is a serious meat sandwich. I will never act flippant towards it again.
