Reid Report: Day 4

by Kristin Reid / Vancouver Canucks

I’m working on my French by watching French television in the very cold Montreal (I promise to stop complaining about the weather, but its even colder here than it was in Toronto). The team traveled into Quebec this afternoon after a well-earned sleep-in this morning.

Andrew Raycroft was still beaming today when he boarded the plane, no explanation needed there.

The news of the Phaneuf deal had just broken through and that was the main topic of conversation. The Canucks are setting a pretty good precedent with teams making major changes after losses to Vancouver, though this deal was in the works before the comeback win.

The team has the day off today and will practice at the Bell Centre tomorrow afternoon.

Montreal has been struggling lately and adding insult to injury, they’ve lost Mike Cammalleri, Jaroslav Spacek and Paul Mara. Cammalleri is listed as doubtful, Spacek and Mara are both questionable for Tuesday’s game.

The group of family that was waiting post game in Toronto (about 30 to 40) will likely easily double in Montreal.

Alex Burrows, for one, is looking for a better result than their last visit to his home province. Burrows was given a game misconduct midway thru the 2nd period by his old friend Stephane Auger.

The last time the Canucks were here, the Habs were in turmoil with rumours surrounding the Kostitsyn brothers and the Russian mafia. This time it’s the rumours of turmoil in the room with Andrei Markov questioning Carey Price’s heart.

It should be a great showdown, the Habs will no doubt remember well the 7-1 loss they suffered back in October at GM Place.

A bientot!
