If you haven’t eaten yet, then I’m giving you fair warning that you might get hungry reading today’s blog - it’s all about food (mostly).
Today we had an “Iron Chef” session up in one of the restaurants at the arena with Chef Brad, who helps make meals for the players during the season. They called it the Iron Chef but there was no secret ingredient or Chairman, but there was cooking - not by us, by the Chef.
He showed us how to make a really good pasta with whole what penne, garlic, olive oil, spinach and tomatoes. I don’t usually like those ingredients but they went together really well. I’m sort of a picky eater and tomatoes are something on my don’t eat list. I don’t know what it is about them but I just never eat them. The weird thing though, is that I like tomato sauce, just not the vegetable. But I’ll definitely try to make the pasta he showed us today - even with the tomatoes but just for flavour (I picked them out today). I’m pretty sure his is a lot better than mine since he’s a professional chef and I have trouble making Kraft dinner.
There are definitely stretches where I’ll start making pasta for myself and I can barbeque well so I’m not hopeless. I make the best bagel with peanut butter - I know no one will top that. Just kidding - well, no I’m only partially kidding, I am good at that but I also have a special spiced tenderloin that is very tasty too. It’s the secret Anthony recipe so I’m not telling what’s in it. Neighbours will come knocking when they smell it on the barbeque but they know I’ll probably end up eating all of it anyway.
We also had a nutrition and diet session this morning and a lot of things we’ve been over before but it’s good to get a reminder so we continue to eat well even during the summer. I’m not going to lie, I do have some bad eating indulgences too - I am human after all.
I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Halifax but Halifax is probably one of the best pizza cities. Everyone talks about Chicago and New York but they clearly haven’t been to Jessy’s Pizza or Martha’s Pizza, which are both near where I live. There are a lot of good pizza places so it’s hard not to get tempted but I have to admit that once in a while I get a slice of pizza. If I have any weaknesses, it’s definitely my love for pizza. My go-to slice would be either meat-lovers or pepperoni- once again no vegetables, which I should probably add some on.
There’s an atlantic dish called a donair, which are really bad for you and I haven’t eaten those in a while but they’re a Halifax special that you can get at the pizza places. They’re very good but not very good for you. I’m hungry thinking about it. I told you not to read this on an empty stomach.
