PCAHA Awards Night

On May 13, 2009 the PCAHA held their annual Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association Scholarship Awards reception in the Sterling Vineyards room at General Motors Place.

The PCAHA annually awards a number of scholarships in recognition of academic achievement and community /school service. The Scholarships are awarded to registered PCAHA Midget and Juvenile players in Grade eleven, Grade twelve or finished high school.

This year marks the 32nd year of the Scholarship Program. Working closely with the Vancouver Canucks and the Vancouver Canucks Alumni the numbers and amounts of scholarships and bursary awards have increased significantly, thanks in large part to the support of the Programs sponsors.

This years awards night saw 17 deserving young athletes receive a total of $12,750.

Over the past 32 years, approximately 660 awards with a total value of $364,100.00 have been handed out to lower mainland students.

This year Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association recognized two key members of the Adjudication Committee. Gary Little, Chairman of the Adjudication Committee and Don McIntyre Member of the Adjudication Committee were presented with plaques for their hard work and dedication to the scholarship program.

This year the Pacific Coast Scholarship Awards saw a number of deserving athletes win a number of awards. The winner of the Stan Smyl Scholarship Award was Ryan Uyeno of Richmond Minor, the winner of the Dennis Kearns Scholarship award was Christopher Matthew also from Richmond Minor, the winner of the Orland Kurtenbach Scholarship award Kyle Enns from South Delta Minor Hockey, the winner of the Pat Quinn Scholarship award was Montana Yuen from Vancouver Girls Inline Hockey, the winner of the Vancouver Canucks Community Service Bursary award was Harris Kidd from Port Coquitlam Minor Hockey and the winner of the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association Scholarship award was Natalie Korenic from Richmond Girls Inline Hockey Association.
