TORONTO, ON –
The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) announced today that 14 event-worn jerseys from the 2008 Winter Classic, played between the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins, have been added to the online eBay.ca auction in honour of the late Luc Bourdon. The NHLPA launched the auction, continuing through to the end of January 2009, one month ago to give hockey fans and friends of Luc the opportunity to support the Luc Bourdon Memorial Fund. All proceeds raised will support scholarships and various youth related initiatives in honour of Luc Bourdon.
The auction, where new items will be regularly posted throughout January, features one-of-a-kind hockey memorabilia donated by NHLPA members, NHL Clubs and various hockey organizations. This new phase of the auction will see 14 event-worn 2008 Winter Classic jerseys posted to the online site. All of these official jerseys were worn during the warm-up of last year’s outdoor game in Buffalo. Sabres’ 2008 Winter Classic event-worn jerseys included in the auction:

To date, 68 items have been sold in the auction raising over $16,000, including: two tickets to the 2008-09 NHL All-Star Game in Montreal (sold for $4,150); Roberto Luongo
autographed blocker ($1,425); Roberto Luongo
autographed glove ($1,035); Trevor Linden autographed jersey ($910); Vancouver Canucks team-signed jersey ($612); Edmonton Oilers team-signed “third” jersey ($500); and a Sidney Crosby signed Team Canada hockey stick ($310).
Throughout January, many more prestigious items will be featured in the auction: game-worn Markus Naslund autographed skates; game-used sticks (featuring many Vancouver Canucks players); Saku Koivu autographed jersey; and 2008-09 NHL team-signed jerseys.
Following Bourdon’s sudden passing in May, NHLPA members committed $10,000 to the Luc Bourdon Memorial Fund through the NHLPA’s Goals & Dreams fund. Fans can also make cash donations via the Cooke Family Foundation of Hope, courtesy of Bourdon’s former teammate and friend, Matt Cooke. The Luc Bourdon Memorial Fund will be officially launched in 2009.
