What do they do?
The vision behind the Starlight Starbright foundation is to find ways to allow seriously ill kids to be kids and forget about their illness and the toll in takes not only on them but the family as well. Their programs and services help children and their families make sense of their medical experiences, spend time together as a family and help them realize they are not alone. Some of the programs they offer include:
- Great Escapes – fu filled events for kids and their families that provide them time to connect and spend time together away from the hospital.
- Starbright World – an online community where seriously ill kids can chate, post bulletins, blog and find friends who share similar experiences.
- Hospital Happenings – fun filled parties designed to offer hospitalized kids comformt, companionships and a break from their medical treatment.
- Wishing Grant – grant wishes to ill children and their families.
What made you select them?
I wanted to volunteer my time with an organization that does work for children and I had heard about the foundation and wanted to learn more about it.
What was the best part – the highlight of your day?
Putting together craft kits that will be distributed to kids at many of the hospitals in the lower mainland.
What did you learn today about giving back?
It’s not about what you do, but that you take time to do something. Regardless of the charity or organization you volunteer at, it takes time and effort and your personal desire to want to help those in need. Giving a little back to a community that we all benefit from is the least we can do.
Why is it important for you to give back personally and as an employee of Canucks Sports & Entertainment?
Personal good will is something I believe in and have always wanted to do more. By having the opportunity to do so at CSE it not only fulfills a personal desire to give back but supports our corporate vision.
Our group of six (Indira, Lisa, Erin, Andi, Annie & Leah)
Spent the day, cleaning out the store room ( a very small room), organizing and sorting toys to be donated to kids at Christmas, wrapped toys, prepared craft kits to go to kids at different hospitals in the lowermainland, updated their newsletter list and wrapped and packaged grant gifts going to different hospitals in B.C.
