It was the end of a forgettable night for Kesler, who finished without a point and a minus-3. It's the first time he's finished minus-3 in a game since Oct. 5, 2007.
Following the game, Kesler spoke with the media about the Canucks' 8-1 loss in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
Q; What was it like seeing Aaron Rome's hit on Nathan Horton? What do you think will happen to Rome?
A: Obviously it's a sensitive issue. We all hope he's all right. It's a fast game out there and things happen.
Q: What was your take on Milan Lucic and Mark Recchi taunting your teammates with gestures mimicking the Alexandre Burrows biting incident? Did that surprise you?
A: No. We know what type of team they are over there. We're going to worry about Game 4.
Q: How much better does the power play need to be?
A: We need to be better in all aspects of our game. PK, PP and 5-on-5. We're going to watch video, regroup. I'm very positive we're going to respond.
Q: Was there one goal in particular that you felt changed the game for your team?
A: No. We battled for most of the first period. We had some Grade A chances. If we bury them, it's a different game. It happens. We've got to forget about this one and move on. We've done a great job all year of worrying about the next game and forgetting about games. This game is in the past.
Q: What was the mindset after the first period when you killed off that five-minute major, and what was it after the second period?
A: Giving up four goals in a period isn't something we want to do every night. After the second period, we still believed we were in the game. Games like this happen. We haven't had too many back-to-back games like this. We're going to respond.
Q: Do you feel like you're taking more abuse than you would normally take?
A: I don't think so. They're trying to play me hard. It's the Stanley Cup Final and it's a rough game.
Q: How come you're getting so frustrated?
A: I'm not getting frustrated.
Q: Is that just part of the feeling of being down big and wanting to fight?
A: Why did I fight? I felt I needed to stand up for myself. They're not going to push me around without me coming back physically. I thought at that time it was my time to stand up for myself.
