Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Michael D. Gillis announced today the hiring of Ryan Johnson as a Player Development Consultant. A Canucks alumnus, Johnson played 120 games in a Vancouver uniform from 2008-09 to 2009-10. In his new role, Johnson will work directly with Canucks prospects focusing specifically on forwards in the system.
Johnson played in 701 NHL games over the span of 13 seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks. He amassed 122 career points (38-83-122) and 250 penalty minutes during the regular season. The Thunder, Bay Ontario native added another five points (1-4-5) and 12 penalty minutes in 29 career NHL playoff games.
Prior to his NHL career, Johnson spent two years at the University of North Dakota where he collected 47 points (8-39-47) in 59 games played. He was drafted 36th overall in the second round by the Florida Panthers in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
