Four Canucks named to 2012 Tim Hortons NHL all-Star game

Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks are pleased to announce that captain Henrik Sedin, alternate captain Daniel Sedin, defenceman Alex Edler and rookie Cody Hodgson have been named to an All-Star Team for the 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa, Ontario, on January 29th. The four players will represent the Vancouver Canucks for the annual event.

Canucks captain, Henrik, leads the NHL in points (50) and assists (39) through 44 games played. He currently is the all-time franchise leader in assists with 548 and is seventh among active NHL players for most assists. This will be his third NHL All-Star Game appearance.

Alternate captain Daniel will be making his second NHL All-Star Game appearance. The reigning Art Ross Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award winner is currently tied for fourth in the NHL in points (47).

Defenceman Alex Edler will be making his NHL All-Star Game debut. Edler currently leads Canucks defencemen in scoring and is tied for third overall among defencemen with 30 points (7-23-30).

Hodgson, also making his All-Star Game debut currently is tied for fourth among rookies in scoring with 25 points (10-15-25) in 44 games. His 25 points make him the highest scoring Canucks rookie since 2000.01 when Daniel Sedin (20-14-34 in 75 games) and Henrik Sedin (9-20-29 in 82 games) were rookies.

The Sedins, Edler and Hodgson were named to the All-Star Game by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department, after consultation with League General Managers.

The three Canucks veterans will join 39 other All-Stars to play in the 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, Jan. 29 at Scotiabank Place. Cody Hodgson will join 11 other rookies to participate with the other 42 All-Stars in the 2012 Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Skills Competition TM on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Scotiabank Place.

Following the overwhelming success of its debut at last year's All-Star Weekend in Raleigh, the 2012 Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Player Fantasy Draft TM will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26 to divide the All-Stars and Rookies into two teams. Captains for each team will be announced next week.
