Q & A With Wade Flaherty


Goaltender Wade Flaherty, 38, has manned the mesh for a variety of NHL teams since being drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 1998. Now, after spending the past two seasons tending for the Moose, he has his sights set on the backup position in Vancouver.

Where did you grow up?

Terrace, B.C. - I'm a B.C. boy.

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Yeah, two older brothers - Mark and Brent.

Do you have any pets?

I have a dog named Squeaky.

What was your favourite hockey team growing up?

You know, I grew up with a lot of Saturday night hockey - so it was probably between Toronto and Vancouver.

Who was your favourite hockey player growing up?

A lot of goaltenders - I liked goalies.

What was the last CD that you bought?

I'm a country guy. I listen to a lot of country music - Tim McGraw, stuff like that.

What is your favourite TV show?

Favourite TV show - has to be 24.

What is your favourite movie?

Probably Star Wars, but that's going back a lot of years.

Who is your favourite movie star?

Hmm ... I guess Harrison Ford. I'm a real Star Wars guy.

If you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would you choose?

I'd like to have dinner with my grandfather.

What was the best save you ever made?

Oh, I don't know - there've been so many of them. [laughs] Nah, I'm just joking ...

Who is the hardest shooter to stop?

Probably Nazzy - his quick shot.

How do you pass the time on bus and plane trips?

Computer or PSP. No, I have kids now, so I better say "read books." I read books.

Which Canuck have you learned the most from?

Um, I don't know - I've learned from everyone, not only here but in Manitoba too.
