Friday March 28th, 2008 saw over 120 female minor hockey players aged 7-13 come together at the Juan de Fuca Rec Centre in Victoria B.C for the opening ceremonies of the BC Hockey and the Vancouver Canucks Female Jamboree.
The opening ceremonies, hosted by Canucks TV and City TV Breakfast Television Co-Host Tasha Chiu, got off to a start with three inspirational speakers.
Bruce Tuck, BC Hockey Female High Performance Branch Coordinator began the speeches with an informative speech on the exciting programs BC Hockey has for the development of female hockey.
Manager of Female Hockey Development for Hockey Canada Trina Radcliffe followed with an inspirational speech and video presentation of Canada’s Female National Team.
The third speaker of the evening was Meghan Montgomery, paralympian and rowing champion. Meghan spoke of her athletic accomplishments despite having a physical disability, giving both an inspiring and motivating message to the girls.
The evening was concluded with a couple of fun games which encouraged team work. Over the course of the weekend the girls played just-for-fun hockey games, made new friends and had a great time.
The Female Jamboree was a fun and exciting event made possible by the hard work of many people. A special thank you to Minute Maid who assisted in providing dry-fit shirts for all the coaches and players. Thank you to the Richmond Pacific Steelers, BC Hockey, Bruce Tuck, Trina Radcliffe, Meghan Montgomery, the coaches, officials, time-keepers and parents, for committing your time and dedication to help make the 2008 Female Jamboree such a great success.View more photos from this event
