Daniel Sedin's Most Memorable Moments

Since entering the league in 2000-01, Daniel Sedin has dazzled with his elite playmaking, creativity and goal-scoring ability. The Swedish forward has emerged as one of the most respected players in the game and he and his brother became franchise cornerstones in Vancouver.
Here's a look at five of his best moments to commemorate the veteran reaching the 1,000 point milestone.

Daniel gets his first career goal against the Lightning (10/08/00)

Henrik to Daniel. It was there from the beginning. With the Canucks trailing the Lightning 4-3 in the third period of an early-October game during the 2000-01 season, the Sedin twins went to work. Henrik recovered the puck below the goal line, before coming out front and finding his brother Daniel with a perfect cross-ice pass.
Daniel made no mistake, beating goaltender Dan Cloutier for his first-ever NHL goal. That Sunday evening at the Ice Palace was just the start for rookie Daniel, who went on to record a point in each of his next four games, finishing his first ever NHL season with 20 goals.

"The Shift" (10/13/07 & 10/15/16)

Complete dominance. There really aren't many other words to describe it. The Sedin twins developed a reputation from their ridiculous cycle game and ability to hem opponents in their own end. There isn't a better play to illustrate "Sedinery" than a Daniel goal against the Oilers in 2007. With the Canucks leading Edmonton 1-0 in the second period, Vancouver received a power play. The Sedin twins went to work in the Oilers' end, cycling the puck in the opposing zone for over two minutes before Daniel finally cashed in.
A career of playing alongside each other has led to some unbelievable chemistry that is magical to watch. The twins followed up "The Shift" with another very similar dominating sequence nine years later against the Flames. Daniel and his brother have frustrated opponents since they entered the league, with Daniel finishing off countless pretty passing plays to help him reach the 1,000 points milestone.

Daniel strikes in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final (06/04/11)

The 2010-11 season will forever be a memorable one for Daniel and the Canucks. Daniel put together a sensational 104-point campaign that ensured the name Sedin would be inscribed on the Art Ross Trophy for the second consecutive year. While he scored 41 goals during the regular season, it was what he did in the playoffs that will have a lasting impact.
He scored nine times and racked up 20 points during Vancouver's Stanley Cup run in 2011, with one of his biggest goals coming in the Stanley Cup Final. The Canucks were trailing 2-1 in Game 2 against the Bruins, when Daniel took a pass from Alex Burrows in the slot and beat goaltender Tim Thomas to make it a 2-2 game. Daniel has a knack of delivering in the clutch, as he scored 10 game-winning goals that season and helped Vancouver reach Game 7 of the Final.

Daniel's spectacular pass to Brad Lukowich (01/25/10)

Over his 17-season NHL career, Daniel has scored some ridiculous goals that have showcased his tremendous talent. His brother Henrik is known for being more of the playmaker, but that doesn't mean Daniel hasn't made some spectacular passes in his time. Take a game between the Canucks and Sabres in 2010 for example.
With the game tied in the third period, Daniel took a pass from his brother and broke in with linemate Alex Burrows. The Sabres, in addition to everyone else watching, figured Daniel would either try to set up Burrows or take the puck to the net himself. Daniel has never been one to take the easy route, however, cutting to the middle and fooling everyone with a ridiculous no-look between-the-legs drop pass to defenseman Brad Lukowich, who beat goaltender Ryan Miller to make it 3-2. Daniel's creativity and hockey intelligence has been exhibited throughout his journey to 1,000 points, and it was on full display here.

Daniel completes the hat trick against Calgary (04/10/10)

It was Vancouver's final game of the 2009-10 season. Henrik Sedin entered the night trailing Washington Capitals' forward Alex Ovechkin by a single point in the NHL scoring race. By the end of the evening, he would have a three-point cushion. Henrik dished out four assists, while brother Daniel recorded a hat trick, as the Canucks crushed the Flames 7-3. The Swedish twins ran a clinic against Calgary, and it was highlighted by a spectacular goal that will live forever in franchise history.
With Daniel sitting on two goals and Vancouver leading 5-2 in the third period, Henrik took a pass from the point and made an excellent no-look redirect tip to his brother Daniel down low. Daniel took the puck to the net, eluding the poke check of goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff with a wicked between-the-legs goal that completed his hat trick and sent GM Place into hysteria.
