Crunch time.

With just 20 games left on the schedule, every game is as important as ever from here on out as the Comets sit nine points out of a playoff position after dropping two of three this past week.

Weekly Results

Wednesday, February 26: San Antonio Rampage 3 – Utica Comets 0

-Joey Crabb scored all three goals for the Rampage, which was the only offense we saw in the game as the Comets were shutout for the third time this season.

-Joacim Eriksson made 27 saves between the pipes for the Comets, while Brandon DeFazio had a team-high four shots on goal.

-Final Shots: San Antonio 30 – Utica 22

Friday, February 28: Adirondack Phantoms 3 – Utica Comets 2

-Tye McGinn’s goal with 2:58 left on the clock broke a 2-2 tie as the Comets dropped a 3-2 decision to the Phantoms on Friday night.

-Benn Ferriero and David Marshall scored for the Comets in what was their third straight defeat.

-Patrick Mullen, Cal O’Reilly and Pascal Pelletier all had helpers in the game.

-Joacim Eriksson made 20 saves on the night, but surrendered two goals on six shots in the third period. The Swedish born netminder was named the Second Star of the Game.

-Benn Ferriero led the Comets with five shots on goal.

-Final Shots: Utica 29 – Adirondack 23

Sunday, March 2: Utica Comets 2 – Bridgeport Sound Tigers 1

-Benn Ferriero netted the lone-goal of the third period which proved to be the game-winner as the Comets snapped their three-game losing skid with a 2-1 win over Bridgeport on Sunday.

-Nicklas Jensen bagged his 15th of the season to round out the scoring for the Comets.

-Cal O’Reilly finished the game with two assists, while Brandon DeFazio and Pascal Pelletier added singles.

-Jensen and Alex Biega both finished with a team-high four shots on goal, while O’Reilly, Frank Corrado and Alex Mallet all finished plus-1.

-Joacim Eriksson turned aside 29 shots in the game, including 21 over the first 40 minutes, en route to being named the game’s first star.

-There were two scraps in the game as Yann Sauve took on Mike Halmo, while David Marshall shed the mitts with Scooter Vaughn.

-Final Shots: Bridgeport 30 – Utica 29

Comet of the Week

Cal O’Reilly is the Comet of the Week after posting three assists in three games. With the Comets only scoring four times in their last three games, the veteran of 113 NHL games was in on 75-percent of Utica goals for the week. The Toronto, Ontario product has accumulated 26 points (3-23-36) in 32 games so far this season with the Comets as he sits second on the team with .81 points-per-game. O’Reilly sits second on Utica in assists, despite only playing in 32 of the teams 56 games.

Coming Up…

The Comets are in action on Wednesday as they welcome the Oklahoma City Barons (26-24-1-6) to Utica, before playing host to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (30-20-3-4) on Friday. The Comets travel to Binghamton on Saturday night to take on the Senators (33-19-1-3).
