A three-game road trip through the state of New York proved successful for the Utica Comets (22-24-3-4) who earned four of a possible six points and now sit just seven points out of a playoff spot with 23 games still to play.
Weekly Results Friday, February 21: Utica Comets 2 – Syracuse Crunch 1 (OT)
-Brandon DeFazio (9) scored the game-winner 4:02 into overtime to lift the Comets to their third straight win.
-Nicklas Jensen (13) tallied the other Comets goal, a power-play marker midway through the middle stanza.
-Cal O’Reilly picked up a pair of apples for the Comets, while Patrick Mullen and Pascal Pelletier both finished with one helper.
-Joacim Eriksson made 25 saves between the pipes for the Comets, earning himself second star of the game honors.
-DeFazio and Jensen both finished with a team-high five shots on goal, while DeFazio, Mullen and O’Reilly all were plus-1.

Saturday, February 23: Utica Comets 3 – Binghamton Senators 2
-Frank Corrado’s fifth goal of the season 6:31 into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Comets made it four wins in a row on Saturday night.
-Nicklas Jensen (14) tallied for the second straight game, while Colin Stuart rounded the scoring out with his 12th of the season.
-Cal O’Reilly finished with two assists for the second straight game, while Alex Mallet, Patrick Mullen and Jeremy Welsh all finished with one helper.
-Jensen, Brandon DeFazio and Pascal Pelletier led all Comets skaters with four shots on goal.
-Joacim Eriksson turned aside 27 shots to earn his 16th victory of the season, which ranks 16th among AHL goaltenders.
-Corrado was named the first star of the game, while O’Reilly took home third star honors.

Sunday, February 24: Albany Devils 2 – Utica Comets 1
-Jeremy Welsh’s (2) goal in the later stages of the second period couldn’t spark the comeback the Comets needed as they fell 2-1 to the Devils on Sunday afternoon to close out their second straight three-games in two-and-a-half days weekend.
-Darren Archibald and Frank Corrado grabbed helpers on the Welsh goal.
-Joe Cannata turned aside 26 of the 28 shots he faced in goal for the Comets.
-Welsh, who was named the third star of the game, led the Comets with four shots on goal and was one of four players to finish plus-1.
-Final shots: Albany 28 – Utica 16
Comet of the Week
Joacim Eriksson, or “GI Joacim” as he is known in Utica, went 2-0-0 with a 1.45 goals-against average and a .946 save-percentage in two starts this past weekend, earning him Comet of the Week honors. The product of Gavle, Sweden has been on quite a roll since mid-December, going 12-5-1 with a 2.06 GAA and a .930 SV% along with three shutouts. It’s no question that since Eriksson found his groove on the smaller ice, his play has helped the Comets turn their season around.Coming Up…
The Comets return home on Wednesday night as they host the San Antonio Rampage (23-23-3-5) before the Adirondack Phantoms (22-27-0-3) come to town on Friday night. On Sunday, the Comets head to Bridgeport to take on the Sound Tigers (25-24-1-4).
