VANCOUVER, B.C. — On a night dedicated to fans, the Vancouver Canucks announced today that the club will celebrate one of the most popular players in team history during Fan Appreciation Night. Very few players have connected with Canucks fans quite like Gino Odjick and the April 11 game vs. Edmonton will give fans another opportunity to rally behind Odjick who continues to battle a rare terminal disease called AL amyloidosis.
“Gino has always had a special relationship with the fans in this city and it’s fitting to honour him during our annual Fan Appreciation Night," said Trevor Linden, Canucks President of Hockey Operations. "Last year Gino was diagnosed with a rare disease, but with the support of family, friends, and fans, he continues to stay strong and battle much like he did during his playing days. He is an inspiration to many and I expect we'll hear the "Gino, Gino!" chant louder than ever on April 11."
The evening's salute to the fans also will feature several fun activations for fans, including numerous giveaways and prizes. Winners of the 2014.15 season player awards will also be announced, a number of which are voted for by the fans.
Several surprise guests will be on hand for the evening and to present the annual Canucks team awards including Most Valuable Player, Best Defenceman, Most Exciting Player, Leading Scorer and Unsung Hero.
More details regarding the schedule of events for the evening will be released at a later date.
