"The pandemic has reminded us how vital Special Olympics BC's year-round sport programs and empowering community are to our more than 5,200 athletes with intellectual disabilities of all ages in 55 communities throughout the province," says Dan Howe, Special Olympics BC President & CEO. "Far too often, individuals with intellectual disabilities are still marginalized and forgotten, leading to significant health challenges and social isolation - and COVID-19 has exacerbated the issues. In response, Special Olympics BC has launched new virtual programming to support our athletes' health and well-being, and we are working on a safe, phased return to our life-changing in-person sport programs. The funding from the Canucks for Kids Fund 50/50 will provide critical support for these efforts that matter so much to the Special Olympics BC family, and to our mission of building inclusive communities throughout our province."
The Canucks For Kids Fund 50/50 Draw in support of Special Olympics BC coincides with this year's Sports Celebrities Festival, presented by Wheaton Precious Metals, which is also currently running until November 10.
