by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed forward Loui Eriksson to a six-year contract. The contract will carry an annual average value of $6,000,000 and will run through the end of the 2022.23 season.

“Loui is an excellent two-way forward, an elite scorer and playmaker with great defensive instincts,” said General Manager Jim Benning. “He is an accomplished player who helps our team now and in the future as a leader and role model for our young players to follow. We’re excited to have Loui join our team and help us compete every night.”

Eriksson, 30, appeared in all 82 regular season games in 2015.16 for the Bruins, notching 30 goals (second on the team) and 33 assists (fifth on the team) for 63 points (tied for second on the team) along with 12 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 183-pound winger has appeared in 10 NHL seasons split between Boston (three seasons from 2013 to 2016) and Dallas (seven seasons from 2006-2013), amassing 504 points (212-292- 504) and 146 penalty minutes in 725 career games. A former All-Star, Eriksson registered his 200th career goal on February 13, 2016 at Minnesota and played in his 700th career NHL game three nights later at Columbus. The forward has also appeared in 34 career NHL playoff games, registering 14 points (6-8-14) and 12 penalty minutes.

On the international stage, Eriksson has represented Sweden in a number of tournaments including the Olympics in 2014 and 2010, the World Championships in 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2009, as well as the World Junior Championships in 2005 and 2004. He is also scheduled to represent Team Sweden at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

A native of Goteborg, Sweden, Eriksson was originally selected by the Stars in the second round, 33rd overall, at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
