Canucks sign Evan Oberg

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed free agent defenceman Evan Oberg from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.


Oberg, 21, finished his 2008.09 season at Minnesota-Duluth with seven goals, 20 assists (7-20-27) and 50 penalty minutes in 43 games with the Bulldogs.

The 6-foot, 170 lbs. native of Camrose, Alberta, spent the past two seasons with the Bulldogs, playing in 67 games. Over the two seasons, Oberg recorded eight goals, 22 assists (8-22-30) and 60 penalty minutes.

This past season Oberg was named to the NCAA West Regional All-Tournament Team after scoring a game-tying goal with just 0.8 seconds remaining versus Princeton University. Prior to his two years at Minnesota-Duluth, Oberg spent two seasons with the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL.
