The 2007-08 NHL schedule emphasizes divisional play and heightened rivalries. Vancouver will play eight games against each Northwest Division club (32 total) and four games against each of the 10 non-division clubs in the Western Conference (40 total). The Canucks remaining 10 games will be split between five match-ups at home versus Atlantic Division clubs, the first time an Atlantic Division team has played in Vancouver since the 2003-04 season, and five road games versus Southeast Division clubs. Vancouver’s 2007-08 season schedule closes with nine straight games against divisional opponents.
On Saturday, December 8th, the Canucks host Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins for Crosby’s career first NHL game in Vancouver. Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils will go head-to-head with Roberto Luongo
and the Canucks on Tuesday, December 18th and on Thursday, January 3rd, the New York Rangers led by captain Jaromir Jagr will play at General Motors Place for the first time since November, 2002.
Vancouver will play one road-and-home series this season, versus Edmonton on October 12th and 13th. The first divisional rivalry opens on the road at Calgary on Saturday, October 6th. The schedule also sees the Canucks play a total of 15 back-to-back series. November is the busiest month at home with eight games scheduled at General Motors Place.
