Canucks Prospects Monthly

Adam Gaudette is the new NCAA scoring leader among Canucks prospects, while Guillaume Brisebois will be doing some December camping with Team Canada. Take a look back at the month that was for Canucks prospects.

…The Utica Comets went 5-6-1 during the month of November and now sit at 7-11-1 overall.
…Alexandre Grenier leads the way up front with 14 points (6-8-14) in 17 games, including nine points (4-5-9) in 10 games during the month. Grenier kicked-off November with a four-game point streak that saw him notch two goals and three assists.
…On the blueline, Jordan Subban continues to put up points as he is tied with Grenier for the team lead with 14 points (5-9-14) through 18 games. Subban is tied for third in goals among all AHL defenceman and tied for fifth in points.
…Thatcher Demko saw a lot of action during the month of November, appearing in seven games going 4-1-1 with a 2.43 GAA and a 91.5 SV%.
…Jake Virtanen appeared in eight games with the Comets in November, registering two assists and 14 shots on goal.
…Two words: Adam Gaudette. The 20-year-old is looking like a steal of a fifth round. He leads all Canucks prospects in the NCAA in points and yes, you heard that right. He sits 10th in the NCAA with 20 points (8-12-20) in 15 games, while also ranking second in points among all sophomore players.
…After dominating his first five games of the season, Brock Boeser has slowed down a bit. He has just four points (1-3-4) in his past eight games, and has been held off the scoresheet in five of those contests. Not to fear. He still has 16 points (7-9-16) in 13 games and history is on his side. Last season, Boeser was held off the scoresheet in six of his first 10 games, then reeled off a 13-game point streak. He will head off to Buffalo, NY later in December for Team USA World Junior camp.
…Will Lockwood continues to lead Michigan in scoring, despite being a true freshman. The 18-year-old third round pick posted four points (3-1-4) in five games this past month and now sits with 10 points (6-4-10) in 12 games on the season.
…In Junior, Guillaume Brisebois will be doing a little December camping as the 2015 third-rounder is one of 32 players invited to the Canadian National Junior Team selection camp. The 6-foot-3 defenceman finished off the month of November with five assists in his last three games. Of the 10 defencemen invited to camp, only one is a returnee, meaning it's wide open for spots on the blue line.
…Speaking of defenceman in the QMJHL, Carl Neill turned heads during the month of November, recording 19 points (5-14-19) in 13 games, giving him 32 points (7-25-32) through 25 games with Sherbrooke this season. Neill will need to be signed to an entry-level contract prior to June 1 for the Canucks to retain his rights.
…In Chicoutimi, Dmitry Zhukenov enjoyed a solid November with 13 points (4-9-13) in 11 games. He now has 23 points (9-14-23) in 21 games this season. Zhukenov has adjusted very well to the QMJHL game since coming over at the start of the 2015-16 season. Including playoffs, the fourth-rounder has posted 86 points (27-59-86) in 91 games.
…Rodrigo Abols started to find his grove in the QMJHL after moving to Acadie-Bathurst from Portland. Abols netted a five-point night, scoring three times and setting up two others, on November 27. He has recorded 10 points (4-6-10) in his last eight contests.
…Tate Olson has his Prince George Cougars are currently the number six ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League. The blueliner is in his 19-year-old season, where he has netted 12 points (2-10-12) in 25 games to date.
…With seven points (3-4-7) in 11 games during the month of November, Jakob Stukel's season has not gone as expected, just yet. His .60 points/per-game are considerably lower than last season, where he picked up points at a .87 rate. The big difference has been the production on the power play. In 2015-16, he found the back of the net 18 times on the man-advantage. This year, just once in 20 games.
…Olli Juolevi netted 10 points (4-6-10) in 12 games during the month of November as the London Knights appear to be, yet again, Memorial Cup contenders with an 18-3-5 record as they rank second in the CHL rankings. Juolevi will take a leave of absence from the OHL in a couple weeks to join Team Finland in preparation for the World Juniors.
…Brett McKenzie continued his point-per-game pace in the OHL during the month of November. With 12 points (2-10-12) in 11 games, the 2016 seventh-rounder sits with 31 points (13-18-31) in 25 games with North Bay this season.
…Defenceman Cole Candella registered his first multi-goal game in the OHL earlier in November, lighting the lamp twice in a win over London. The 18-year-old has netted nine points (2-7-9) in 23 games so far this season.
What's on in December?
…As always, TSN will have wall-to-wall coverage of the World Juniors starting on Boxing Day where a couple Canucks prospects are expected to showcase their skills.
…Olli Juoleviwill be featured on national TV on December 2 as London plays host to Owen Sound live on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet ONE. The Knights will also play in front of a national audience on December 15 live on Sportsnet 360.
…For those with Shaw TV, you will be able to watch Jakob Stukel twice this month as a pair of Calgary Hitmen games will be featured: December 7 when they take on Saskatoon and then once again on December 17 when they host Kelowna.
…Fans on Vancouver Island can catch a glimpse of Tate Olson on December 27 and 28 as the Cougars are in Victoria for a pair of games against the Royals.
