Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks are proud to host “Sox in the City” at the January 13 game versus the New Jersey Devils. Fans are encouraged to donate a pair of white sports socks to aid the homeless of Vancouver.
On game night, volunteers from the West End/Coal Harbour Community Policing Centre and members from the Vancouver Police Department will be collecting donations of socks to benefit the homeless of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
The socks will be used by health care staff at Vancouver Coastal Health’s Contact Centre. The centre, located at the corner of Main and Hastings streets, is a first point of contact into Vancouver Coastal Health’s programs and services for many of the homeless people on the Downtown Eastside. The drop-in centre offers basic health care as well as safe refuge.
Dry, warm feet are essential during Vancouver’s wet, winter weather. Nowhere is this need greater than in the Downtown Eastside where many people suffer with infected feet caused by walking as many as 20 miles every day in ill-fitting shoes and no socks.
Make your socks donation at the Canucks Community Corner, located in Section 111 at General Motors Place.
