Canucks Future Watch: 2.22.16

Brock Boeser is on pace to become the first North Dakota freshman to lead the team in scoring since 1994, while Brendan Gaunce led the offensive charge in Utica with five points this past week.


After being held off the scoresheet on Friday night, Brock Boeser tallied his 20th goal of the season and picked up an assist in a 2-1 win over Minnesota Duluth. Boeser is just the 13th freshman in school history to score 20 goals in a season, following T.J. Oshie and Jonathan Toews back in 2005-2006.

Thatcher Demko stopped 65-of-67 shots fired his way this past weekend, helping Boston College grab a couple wins over Vermont. Demko hasn’t lost in the 2016 calendar year, going 9-0-3 in that stretch.

Alex Friesen made his NHL debut with the Canucks last week, tallying one shot on goal in 11:43 of ice time. Friesen was re-assigned to the Comets on Monday.

Brendan Gaunce had a productive week at the office, picking up five points (1-4-5) in three games. Gaunce had two assists, including one on the winner, on Wednesday, picked up another two helpers on Friday night, before tallying his 15th of the season Saturday night.

Alex Grenier began last week with a three-point performance in a win over Portland. Grenier scored the winner, while also picking up a pair of power play helpers. He would finish the week with four points (1-3-4) in three games. Grenier has nine points (2-7-9) and a plus-20 rating in eight games during the month of February.

Jordan Subban picked up an assist on Wednesday and Friday night to extend his point streak to five games, which would be snapped on Saturday in a 3-2 loss to Albany. Since December 13 (26 games), Subban has only once gone more than two games in a row without a point.
