Thatcher Demko and Hunter Shinkaruk highlight the week that was for Canucks prospects.


After posting a hat trick last weekend, 2015 first-rounder Brock Boeser continued his strong play in the NCAA with a goal and two helpers in two games this past weekend, as North Dakota remains unbeaten on the year.

Cole Cassels appeared in two games with the Comets this past week, registering no shots on goal. The 20-year-old is still seeking his first career AHL point.

Thatcher Demko has literally been a brick wall. The 2014 second-rounder became the first Boston College goalie to post back-to-back-to-back shutouts since Cory Schneider did so in 2006.

Alex Friesen picked up his first point of the season in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Syracuse, assisting on Blair Jones’ first period power-play tally.

Brendan Gaunce recorded a goal and assist in three games this past week. His first period goal on Sunday stood up as the game winner, the fourth of his AHL career.

Alex Grenier has had a slow start to the season, scoring just one empty net goal in five games. The big winger has been getting chances however, as he sits second on the team with 16 shots on goal.

Nicklas Jensen has points in three-of-five games so far this season and also sits tied for the team lead in plus/minus. If the consistency can stay at this level, Jensen may be in for a breakout year.

Hunter Shinkaruk recorded his first career AHL hat trick on Wednesday in a 4-2 Comets win. It marks his second multi-goal game of his pro career and first hat trick he has recorded since the 2011-12 WHL season, when he had seven in one season.

Jordan Subban picked up three points in two games this past week before sitting out Saturday’s contest. Subban could be the guy to give the Comets that offensive punch from the backend that they need.
